Baltimore is in the county of Maryland in the USA and founded in 1729. It has a rich and varied history which, along with its many major visitor attractions means that it is now a fantastic city for tourist and business visitors alike. The town itself grew through trade and its seaport which is one of the largest in the mid Atlantic and although now still an integral part of the city the Harborplace seafront area has become a major tourist attraction where you will find not just a stunning skyline but art galleries, shops and restaurants. Baltimore's most famous son, Babe Ruth features heavily in this city and 'the Great Bambino' is celebrated with a museum that features famous memorabilia from his days with the Orioles. If this is of interest then take a trip to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Here you can take a tour of one of the countries newest baseball stadiums, a little bit of history in the making!

Baltimore is a city rich in history of ships and along the waterfront you will find one of the most impressive collections of military ships in the world. From submarines to coast guard ships to old sloops there is something for everyone. This is a historic site; founded by William Fell in 1703 it retains its 'olde worlde' charm with 18th century ship builder's old haunts, delightful shops and restaurants. Main Street holds many events throughout the year so do check what is on during your visit.

For a little more history a visit to Fort McHenry is a must see. During the war of 1812 this fort prevented the British from advancing into the city. Later it was used as a military prison and it has been designated not only as a historic monument but also as a historic shrine. It is open to the public all year round and has a fascinating visitors center. If you are visiting in September then don't miss Defenders Day when there are various ceremonies to celebrate the defense of Baltimore.

After the tremendous amount of sightseeing there is to be done in this city, it may be the time to stop in on one of our Baltimore luxury hotels and take a break in the calm and tranquility before perhaps venturing out shopping.
